Privacy Notice

This section explains how the K4Health Project at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health’s Center for Communication Programs (CCP) will handle information we learn about you from your visit to our website. The information we receive depends upon what you do when visiting our site.

If you visit our site to read or download information:

We collect and store only the following information about you: the name of the domain from which you access the Internet (for example, aol.com, if you are connecting from an America Online account, or iowa.edu if you are connecting from the University of Iowa’s domain); the date and time you access our site, the Internet address of the website from which you linked directly to our site, if any; and which pages you view while you visit our web site.

We use the information we collect to count the number of visitors to the different sections of our site, find out what information is the most viewed, and so help us make our web site more useful to visitors.

This gathering and storing of information is separate from the activity described as monitoring in our Security Notice.

If you decide to send us personally identifying information, we will use that personally identifying information to respond to your comment or suggestion and to count the number of people sending us comments.

We want to be very clear: We will not obtain personally identifying information about you when you visit our site unless you choose to provide such information to us.

Cookies and Other Information Stored on Your Computer

The majority of this site does NOT use the “cookies” that some websites use to gather and store information about your visits to their sites.

Cookies are essentially tokens of information, such as preferences and passwords, which some web servers collect from you when you access them. Those data are stored on your hard drive and not on the web site’s server. Whenever you visit a “cookie” site again, the server looks for its cookie on your hard drive and, if found, then reads the information it stored there. Cookies generally are stored in your browser’s directory or folder in a file named cookie.txt (MagicCookie on a Macintosh).

The Photoshare database includes a “Photo Basket” feature (i.e. shopping cart) that allows users to store and edit Photoshare selections up to 30 days prior to submitting a request. The Photo Basket uses a cookie to store information about basket contents on the user’s computer. After 30 days, or after the user submits a request (whichever occurs first), the basket will automatically be emptied. No information about the individual user is collected or saved by The K4Health Project or Photoshare.

Security Notice

For SITE SECURITY purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, the K4Health Project’s computer system employs software programs to monitor network traffic and identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or otherwise cause damage.

Unauthorized attempts to upload information or change information on this service are strictly prohibited and may be punishable under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act of 1986 and the National Information Infrastructure Protection Act.

Restrictions on Use

Except as noted on specific pages, information presented on this website may not be copied and reused without permission from the Johns Hopkins University (see Copyright Notice). Please contact us for permission first. Usually, we can give permission for nonprofit educational use of the K4Health Project materials found on this website. Some materials on this website are not the property of the Johns Hopkins University, however. These materials are clearly identified. Please contact the original sources, at the address given, for permission for use of these materials. We ask that original sources be cited as the source of any information obtained from this site. If no other source is indicated on or with the information you are using, please credit the Johns Hopkins University.

3. Permission must be sought and given from the K4Health Project before each and every use of the image.
